Gearing up for our fundraiser and what a fantastic job Pat Foote and Valerie Flores have been doing to keep us all organized and motivated to get silent auction items, sell raffle tickets, buy our seats for the event etc! Thank you so much ladies and thanks to everyone in the Chapter who has been working hard so hard on all the details required to hold a successful fundraising event. I know Pat and Val would say it is a collective effort - and it is - thank you all!

As we continue to focus on growing our EWI of Phoenix Chapter, remember that all of us are part of the membership growth effort. Who do you know that is looking for something great in their life? One great reason to join our chapter is for the volunteering opportunities. When you talk to potential members, be sure to tell them about all the great things that our Chapter does for the community. From EWISP Scholarships to the Reading Rally, to our clothes donations, to Shoe Box Ministries, to supporting our own Phoenix Inner City Kids efforts, our Chapter gives back and that is rewarding! People volunteer for a wide variety of reasons, especially wanting to help others. But it's also OK to want some benefits in return from volunteering.

Instead of considering volunteering as something you do for people who are not as fortunate as yourself, begin to think of it as an exchange.

Consider that most people find themselves in need at some point in their lives. So today you may be the person with the ability to help, but tomorrow you may be the recipient of someone else's volunteer effort. Adding your effort to the work of others makes everyone's lives better. There are many reasons that we each choose to volunteer - you may recognize some of these reasons as your own.
  • to get to know a community
  • to demonstrate commitment to a cause/belief
  • to gain leadership skills
  • satisfaction from accomplishment
  • to have an impact
  • to learn something new
  • to feel proud
  • to make new friends
  • to explore a career
  • to help someone
  • to do something different from your job
  • to feel good 2 to be part of a team
  • because you were asked
  • to test yourself
  • to build your resume
  • to be an agent of change
  • because of personal experience with the problem, illness, or cause
  • to stand up and be counted
When sharing the volunteer aspect of joining EWI with a potential new member, remember the reasons you enjoy volunteering and share the personal side with that potential new member. People want to join EWI often because of the personal touch the new connections can add to their life.

I look forward to seeing everyone March 27th at our annual fundraiser here at Arizona Grand Resort. Until then....

Have a great month!
