Kerry Feltenberg 2009/2010 Chapter President
I am so excited! What better way to start off your new "year" as the incoming President than to have just returned from LCAM. If you want to truly understand the heart and soul of EWI, get energized, connect with your fellow Chapter members and members all over the country, learn leadership skills - you have to attend LCAM. I encourage you to start planning now to attend LCAM 2010 in Kansas City, Missouri – home of barbecue, jazz and the second most fountains in world, Rome, Italy being number one!

At Presidents Caucus, prior to LCAM, the incoming Presidents had an opportunity to hear Lori Giovannoni speak about leadership. Her message – leaders should inspire, they should pull rather than push, and create energy than inspires people to enroll in the vision. EWI is made up of volunteers that believe in connections, careers and community – the essence of EWI. We belong because we get a good feeling in return. According to a survey Lori shared with the Presidents, regular club attendance, volunteering, entertaining or faith group attendance is the happiness equivalent of getting a college degree or doubling your income. We belong to EWI because it makes us happy and we believe in the vision of the organization.

In August, the incoming Board and Committee Chairs had a very productive and fun board retreat where we discussed our Chapter goals and made plans for a great year. We had some fun too – learning some life lessons about keeping fun in your life from Todd and Marsha Davis from Fun Coach USA. We even got a chance to have some friendly competition to build tinker toy towers, create the best salsa and the best fruit sculpture among teams.

The purpose of the board retreat was to ask ourselves – what can we do better for the Chapter and what are we willing to do? I ask all of you that question.

My focus this year is membership growth. To me, this means several things. It means recruiting new quality member firms that believe in the EWI purpose and will share our vision. It means keeping our current member firms and representatives engaged and excited about the EWI purpose. It means growing representatives to accept future Chapter leadership roles.

I need your help. If each one of us finds one new firm to bring into our EWI Phoenix family, our Chapter will double in size. We can do it – each person brings in only one new firm and imagine what our Chapter can do with double the amount of dedicated members. This year, the Chattanooga Chapter added the most new member firms of any Chapter in EWI. Their motto – Live It, Share It, Sell It. Those ladies we met at LCAM are so passionate about EWI, they are so excited and enthusiastic, who could say no to their Southern smiles and obvious love for this organization. This month, we will work together to finalize our "30-second commercial" for our Chapter. This tool will help you give a brief overview of the EWI purpose to those potential new firms you'll be talking to. Sharing your own EWI story will close the deal.

This is going to be a fantastic year for EWI of Phoenix. I promise that we will continue to seek out quality speakers balanced with both education and fun. I promise that the board will focus on leadership growth of the members. I promise that we will continue to seek and support worthwhile philanthropic activities. I promise that we will work hard to deliver a profitable return on our fundraising events. I promise that we will share our EWI of Phoenix efforts with the community and raise awareness for all that we give.

It is my honor and pleasure to (once again) serve as the EWI of Phoenix Chapter President. We are going to have a FUN and rewarding year!
