June 2010 President's Message |
|
28 May 2010 |
We wrapped up May on a high note with two great events. On Saturday, May 22, several of our members were able to spend time wtih the residents of Brookdale Senior Living in Paradise Valley. This is the second year that our chapter was able to provide some fun for the residents at this community. Sue Orzechowski organized the event with Brookdale, coordinated decor and logistics and chapter members. Linda Brooks led the charge to make all the corsages and boutonnieres by hand for the residents. Jim Hannah provided the live music. Several members attended to greet the residents, chat, dance and pin on the flowers. This is such a fun event - thank you to everyone who helped make it happen again this year!

Another wonderful scholarship winner! The annual EWISP scholarship and Executive recognition dinner are always a highlight of the year. This is what we work so hard to raise funds for and to meet the amazing young woman that wins each year is an incredible reward.
Kristine Erickson did a great job planning and organizing the actual scholarship process and the program. Thank you again Kris!

First and most importantly - did we have a great fundraiser event or what!???!!! Saturday, March 27th we had over 100 members and guests attend our annual scholarship fundraising event held this year at Arizona Grand Resort. My gratitude and thanks for many months/weeks/days/hours of hard work and planning go to our Ways & Means Co-chairs, Valerie Flores, Nickel Lithographics and Pat Foote, Gust Rosenfeld. These ladies did a phenomenal job of planning not only a fun but also profitable event.

Gearing up for our fundraiser and what a fantastic job Pat Foote and Valerie Flores have been doing to keep us all organized and motivated to get silent auction items, sell raffle tickets, buy our seats for the event etc! Thank you so much ladies and thanks to everyone in the Chapter who has been working hard so hard on all the details required to hold a successful fundraising event. I know Pat and Val would say it is a collective effort - and it is - thank you all!

Thank you to everyone who braved the crazy rain in January to attend our membership meeting! It was very exciting to have a number of guests in attendance that are considering joining the Phoenix Chapter!
Congratulations to our hardworking membership committee, headed by Audrey Monell and Janet Anderson and to all of you for taking our Chapter growth seriously. Who will win the grand prize of a weekend at Arizona Grand?!!!
The EWI Corporate Board and Office hosted a President's conference call recently and I would like to share the topics discussed with all of you. Each of the Corporate Board presented an update on the projects they have been working on during their tenure so far.
Here are some highlights of the projects currently underway and success stories:

2010 is here - and like I now say every year, I can't believe how fast the year went!
Like many of you, I have made some New Year's goals for myself. Those goals involve my personal, professional and EWI lives.
Did you know the tradition of the New Year's Resolutions goes all the way back to 153 B.C. Janus, a mythical king of early Rome was placed at the head of the calendar? With two faces, Janus could look back on past events and forward to the future. Janus became the ancient symbol for resolutions and many Romans looked for forgiveness from their enemies and also exchanged gifts before the beginning of each year.

EWI Reading Rally - we had so much fun at Andalucia Middle School on October 26. The 4th and 5th graders that attended the Reading Rally were enthusiastic readers already. They were so excited to be able to choose their own three books to keep (many do not have books at home) and then read to us. The t-shirt, activity book, crayons or colored pencils, snacks and small toys were a hit as well. Sue and Annette did a great job organizing the whole event and I think that those of us that attended had as much fun as the kids.

I am so excited! What better way to start off your new "year" as the incoming President than to have just returned from LCAM. If you want to truly understand the heart and soul of EWI, get energized, connect with your fellow Chapter members and members all over the country, learn leadership skills - you have to attend LCAM. I encourage you to start planning now to attend LCAM 2010 in Kansas City, Missouri – home of barbecue, jazz and the second most fountains in world, Rome, Italy being number one!

In August 2008 when the 2008/09 Phoenix Chapter Board met for the board retreat, a motto was chosen, "Today We Talk the Talk and Tomorrow We Walk the Walk". At the retreat, we "Talked the Talk" by setting our goals and aspirations for the upcoming year. The enthusiasm and excitement from that day of planning has allowed this board to "Walk the Walk" through-out this entire year.

Excited, Enthusiastic, and Renewed |

If you had the opportunity to attend the July meeting I know that you felt just the same as I did excited, enthusiastic, and renewed. Lori is an incredible speaker with a message that touches all of our lives in some way. Whether it is you career life, your EWI life or your family life, she brings the message to your heart as well as your head. I know that each of us that were in attendance came away with a renewed since of being. Lori is an incredible speaker and the subject matter was relevant to our chapter as well as to the Tucson and San Diego Chapter. It does not matter how many times you hear her she always bring something new to the table.

Talk About Informational! |

What about the information that Dr. Donese Worden brought to the table? If you missed last months meeting you missed one of the best meetings of the year. Dr. Worden provided us with an abundance of information regarding taking control of your health and what tools you need in order to accomplish this goal. She had all the facts and studies needed to guide you in the right direction. Dr. Worden kept us all taking notes so we could go home and plan what we need to do in order to get out health in check. I know that I have already visited Sprouts and Whole Foods to purchase some of the things that she had suggested.

Thank you to Darrell and Bonnie Olson of Jewels by G Darrell Olson. What a wonderful evening, from all the jewelry, to the fashion show, and the outstanding food. It was an exciting and wonderful evening. I loved hearing about how Darrel got started, the amount of years he has invested in his business and how long he has been at this one location. Thanks to Bonnie for supplying our Models with the stunning fashions they wore and thanks to Sue, Bonnie and Audrey for being such wonderful models and entertaining us. Also thanks to everyone that brought their gold, not only did you benefit from recycling the gold but so did our chapter. The $187.00 check from Jewels by G Darrel Olson was a nice contribution to our scholarship fund. Thanks to all of you, and also to Bonnie and Darrel for being so generous to our chapter.
