Dear EWI Colleagues:
October is here and I'm excited for our fall season, new Board, and Committee Members to begin their new roles and share their ideas for EWI and continued growth. Our theme this year is twofold - 1) Keep it simple and 2) Have fun. We all work hard to help others, we are all busy and full of responsibilities so thank you for taking time to make a difference for someone else, many who are less fortunate than us. I believe volunteering is a true gift, a gift to others is often a gift to ourselves at the same time. Each of you make me very proud, you have honored me with the President's role and I can't wait to see what we can do together!

OK, I now have a new favorite place to eat! Kokopelli's Roast Beef is amazing, the wine is great also and best of all more of the dollars spent their stay in Arizona since it is a local restaurant, one of my passions. Hearing from Dr. Glenna McCollum one of our ASIST judges and President of the new Chandler University was a great treat. I look forward to watching this new school grow and become an important school not just in Chandler or Arizona, but for the whole world.

A huge thank you to Don Storrs, Barbara Kendrick-Opre of Wolz Florist and Diane & Greg Robins of Arizona Nights for 2 great firm nights in 1. Don taught those that wanted to how to make a floral arrangement and Diane taught some gambling tips & tricks. If your firm has not had a chance to host a firm night it is a great way to showcase your business. Wasn't it fun giving away $6000?! Emis sounds like a little power house and I am sure she will do well with her endeavors in helping Education in Arizona. Lisa has great plans a well and was interesting to hear her talk about becoming a surgical assistant.

Can you believe it's June already? Kellie is busy putting her board together. LCAM registration will be out soon. Roxie and her committee are working on the Senior Prom for this month. Sondra and her committee will be getting ready for the Golf tournament and let's not forget the Reading Rally. The rest of the 2010 / 2011 meetings are all planned out. Life is good! I have now read Jon Gordon's newest book "The Seed", Finding Purpose and Happiness in Life and Work. I must say I am the happiest I have been in many years, my business is good, my daughter just got married, my son is working at something he enjoys, and my President year with EWI is running smoothly. We as women are very hard on ourselves and we must work hard on finding balance in all that we do. EWI is no different, when Kerry asked me to be her V.P. I had all those messages in my head "Say no you don't have the time", "you're not smart enough", "There is no way you can do that", "You can't stand up and talk to all those people" ......

Wow, what a night! Ben Arnold of Ben Arnold Associates sang the invocation and the Star Spangle Banner and then led us all in the pledge. What a fitting way to start off a great night. Kris Erickson of Lovitt & Touche and Angel Denton of VIO Vitality Inside & Out did an outstanding job on holding our Executive appreciation & Scholarship award dinner. All executives in attendance were honored for their support and membership in our chapter.

Yee Ha! What a beautiful night we had for the fundraiser and what a great view of Phoenix. I had many of the executives say how much they enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere, and how they all felt very welcomed to the event. Many thanks to Sondra Robbins of Ernst & Young and the fundraising director and her committee on a great job. We also must thank our Gold Sponsors Arizona Public Service, Chanen Construction & Edward Jones, as well as our Silver Sponsor Southwest Gas. Member firm Arizona Nights and her staff had many high makers for the night as well, what a great crew and much excitement about the variety of games offered. I must say a BIG THANK YOU to the staff from Arizona Nights with their generous donation - we did not know that they were going to split their tip money with us so - Thank You!

The enthusiasm in the air is exciting as Melinda Striyle & Lillian Gilmer, both new members have each attended a board meeting to learn & take on an active role in the chapter and are both serving on the Hospitality committee. Lillian is also making plans to go to the Spring Conference or LCAM. Diane Robbins is very active in the fundraiser and giving lots of great support and ideas. Our newest member Mindy Comitor has been busy surfing the websites and asking lots of great questions. All of them are working hard on helping with the fundraiser. I am so proud that they are taking on such a lofty quest so early on in their membership. I look forward to their continued interest and cannot wait to see what they will take on next.

Wow, January sure flew by. Our January meeting was full with the reports and our speaker Rhonda Bannard from Inspired Connections; I just wish we would have had more time to have her speak. I found her talk to be very interesting as much of what she was talking about we try to practice at my business and have since we first opened in 1990.
