| Kathryn Biegel, a junior at Mountain View High School in Mesa, Arizona was recently awarded a scholarship by the Phoenix Chapter of Executive Women International (EWI) at a dinner in her honor at Skye Restaurant, Arrowhead.
The award was presented by Kris Erickson, the EWI Scholarship Program (EWISP) Chair for 2010. Ms. Biegel is ranked first in her class of 755 and in addition to her academic achievements, she is an award-winning athlete, an accomplished musician, an active member of her church youth league, a community volunteer and swim instructor. She placed second in national competition for the World Scholars Cup International Competition in her sophomore year resulting in an invitation for her team to represent the United States in Singapore. Ms. Biegel would like to pursue a career in law as an attorney or judge. As first place winner in the Phoenix Chapter EWISP competition, Ms. Biegel is automatically entered at the national EWISP level with an opportunity to win additional scholarship funding. EWISP is an annual competition-based program open to all juniors attending Maricopa County high schools. The competition is based on academics, leadership qualities, citizenship and extra-curricular activities as well as written and oral communication skills; the winner was chosen by a panel of independent judges including David M. Yoder, Catholic Healthcare West; Patricia Greenquist, Arizona Department of Health Services; and Judge John P. Ore, Justice of the Peace, Maricopa County.
